Overview

Charming Palos Verdes Estates has a rich history and is the oldest of the four cities on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The land was purchased by Frank A. Vanderlip Sr. from the Bixby family in 1913 with the goal of developing a scenic, residential community. The task of planning the new community fell to the famed Olmstead Brothers, sons of Frank Olmstead Sr., who designed Central Park in New York City. More than a quarter of the community was permanently dedicated to scenic, open space preserves. This early dedication of parklands and the area’s natural beauty has given the City its unique pastoral character and its international reputation for scenic beauty.

In addition to its enchanting views, residents can send their children to some of the best public and private schools in the nation. For instance, the largest public high school on the peninsula (Palos Verdes Peninsula High School) boasts low student-to-faculty ratios, high numbers of national merit scholars, and a 99% graduation rate.
